We do not give financial advice
TermDepositRates.co.nz publishes factual information about term deposit interest rates offered by New Zealand banks and other deposit takers. We rank those rates by interest rate — highest first — and nothing more.
We are not a licensed financial advice provider and we do not give regulated financial advice. Nothing on this site is a recommendation or an opinion that you should or should not acquire any particular term deposit or other financial product. We do not know and do not take into account your financial situation, goals, tax position or risk tolerance.
Where our tools describe a rate as the "best", "highest" or "top" rate, that describes a number — the highest published rate in the data we hold for that term — not a judgment that the product is suitable for you.
If you want advice about your own circumstances, speak to a licensed financial advice provider. You can check whether someone is licensed on the Financial Service Providers Register.
Where our rates come from
Rates on this site are collected automatically once a day from publicly published rate data. They are not supplied to us by the banks, and they are not live.
This means the rate you see here may differ from the rate a bank is currently offering. Rates change without notice. Minimum deposits, fees, interest payment frequency, early-withdrawal conditions and eligibility criteria vary between institutions and are not always reflected in our tables.
Always confirm the current rate and full terms directly with the bank before investing.
Deposit protection
Since 1 July 2025, the Depositor Compensation Scheme protects up to $100,000 per depositor, per licensed deposit taker, if that institution fails. It is administered by the Reserve Bank of New Zealand under the Deposit Takers Act 2023. Amounts above $100,000 at any one institution are not covered, and cover depends on the institution being a licensed deposit taker. Confirm the position with your institution — see the Reserve Bank's Depositor Compensation Scheme page.
Tax
Interest is taxable income in New Zealand. Any tax rates or examples on this site are general information and may not reflect current rates or your circumstances. Check current guidance with Inland Revenue or a tax adviser.
Accuracy and liability
We take care to keep this site accurate, but we do not warrant that the information is complete, current or error-free, and we do not cover every institution or every product in the market. To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any loss arising from reliance on information on this site.
Nothing in this disclaimer limits any right you have under the Fair Trading Act 1986 or other legislation that cannot lawfully be excluded.
How we make money
This site is free to use. Where you give us your contact details through our rate finder, we may share them with our partners as described in our Privacy Policy, and we may be paid for doing so. This does not affect how we rank rates — our tables and tools are ordered by interest rate only.
